The Margaret River, the actual river (not the town) runs out into the Indian Ocean. The shallow, calm Margaret River waters flow out the river mouth for most of the year and is popular with young families in summer. It is a favourite surfing beach break for grommets (young surfers) and beginners. Don’t let the small waves deceive you as further out is pounding break which is the home of the Margaret River Pro Surfing competition which is run every year at the end of May.

“Our name House of Cards was inspired by the gamble that winemakers and growers take every vintage – you have to play the hand that you are dealt.” All fruit for the wines at House of Cards come from their single vineyard at the Northern end of Caves Road. Each House of Cards vintage showcases the hand that was dealt by Mother Nature. In making hand crafted, single vineyard wines, Travis Wray utilises organic and biodynamic principles to improve health of his soil and the vine nutrition. The wines all come with great names like ‘The Royals’ Queen of Hearts Chardonnay, ‘The Royals’ Queen of Diamonds – Blanc de Blancs, ‘The Royals’ King Cabernet Sauvignon, ‘The Ace’ Cabernet Malbec and ‘One-Eyed Jack’ Fortified Shiraz to round out the hand.
